Hometown Tour
Note this is a Sample Itinerary: Hotels and routes may change. You'll be emailed the final itinerary one month before departure, but even then we always leave space for the unexpected finds and last minute discoveries!
What better way to get to know your neighbors? We loved the first one, so I was asked if I was gonna do it again. Sure! I've worked out a new route with new experiences, while also keeping one of our 3 night stays in Dunkeld, a tour favorite. During our eleven days together (one night more than my other tours), we will experience breathtaking scenery, castles, museums and ancient historical sites and be treated to some private concerts at night. Note: this is a moderately active tour with some hikes - nothing crazy, but please reach out before booking if you have mobility issues.
Your tour includes stays in 4-star eco-friendly hotels when available, breakfast every day and 4 group dinners. Here's our tentative itinerary. The finalized tour may vary slightly and will be emailed to all participants closer to time:
Itinerary
Sept 1-12, 2026
Days 1-4: Fly into Edinburgh, where you'll have time to take in something you missed on the first visit and have a relaxing dinner. Our coach will pick us up the next morning and we'll head to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, where we will spend 3 nights. During our time here, we'll enjoy lovely hikes, great music, local history, a visit to Inveraray Castle, a boat ride across these iconic waters, and more.
Day 5-7: We travel to Oban, a charming coastal village, which we only had a glimpse of on the first Hometown Tour. From here, we'll do some island hopping and also have ample time to walk, explore and enjoy everything this stunning area has to offer, with an added private concert, author talk and local history during our stay.
Day 8-10: We travel to Dunkeld, along the banks of the River Tay, to meet old friends and new. We'll visit a local farm, committed to sustainability with a tractor tour taking us up into the hills and picnic lunch by a serene lake. With a number of easy walks from town, you'll have time to meander on your own and lunch and browse in the quaint cafes and shops. This is a music haven, old stomping grounds of Dougie MacLean, who still lives nearby. We will be treated to a private concert as well as an informal music session down by the river one night.
Day 11: We travel through Appin, for a magical hike to remember and lunch at a restaurant on the water that warmly welcomes our groups. Then onto Edinburgh for our final night dinner and sharing.
Day 12: Journey onward or flights home.
